Bishopscourt House 2
This contemporary Bishopscourt’s home combines minimalist elegance with natural warmth. We designed the interior architecture and hard finishes in a light, refined palette of porcelain, red cedar, oak veneer and white Corian. Expansive frameless glazing dissolves boundaries to the landscape, while meticulous detailing meets the highest European standards.
The home we designed for them is an open-plan, courtyard shaped house surrounding a terrace with a long, rimless swimming pool and outdoor eating area, taking advantage of the peaceful, natural environment and beautiful garden.
Outside, the use of natural materials – including timber, frameless glass windows, porcelain, concrete and stone – juxtapose contrasting and complementary textures in natural tones. The expansive swimming pool enhances the tranquillity of the space, bringing the calming element of water into the outdoor entertainment area. How these come together, with careful and sensitive consideration paid to angles and negative space, create harmony with the natural environment, with acute attention to the interplay of light, shadow and reflection. An outdoor fireplace in a sunken patio with recessed lounge protected from the elements looks onto the dramatic backdrop of the Cape Fold Mountain range.
From the inside of the house, the garden and outdoor beauty is just as accentuated through the use of floor-to-ceiling frameless windows in the communal spaces, large bathroom windows looking onto private garden areas and clerestory windows with views of the surrounding trees. Sleek, minimalist finishes and clean lines accentuate the setting, with soft furnishings and artwork by the client. The result is a serene, luxurious retreat – timeless, precise, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
