Collingwood Studios

Collingwood Studios is the revitalisation of a once-abandoned sewing factory in the heart of Observatory. When Peerutin Karol undertook the project over 15 years ago, the building had fallen into disrepair. The intention was to restore its architectural integrity while adapting it to meet the needs of a modern creative industry. The result is an industrial-themed office and production space that honours the building’s history while supporting a new generation of makers.

The design strategy focused on preserving the building’s authentic character and reintroducing industrial elements in a way that felt contemporary yet rooted in place. New face-brick archways were added within the interior, echoing the building’s former life and creating a strong visual connection to its manufacturing heritage. Robust materials, exposed structural elements and generous internal volumes reinforce the raw, honest aesthetic that defines the project.

The client, a fashion designer and manufacturer, sought a space where design, production and creative collaboration could coexist. By returning the building to its original purpose, the project creates a meaningful narrative of continuity: a former garment factory brought back to life as a working studio once again. Functional planning, natural light and flexible layouts support the day-to-day demands of an active design and production environment, while the restored envelope provides an inspiring and character-rich backdrop for creative work.

Collingwood Studios demonstrates Peerutin Karol’s commitment to thoughtful adaptive reuse, where history is preserved, purpose is redefined and architecture becomes a bridge between past and present.
